Avli Reastaurant in Athens
Athens back to the 50ies! A hidden gem in the busy area of the main market, the Avli Restaurant is hard to find, but once you pass the door and make it through the narrow corridor leading to the small courtyard, you have just turned back the wheel of time by 60 years.
White walls, blue doors and shutters and a wooden balcony determine the scenario together with typical taverna-style chairs and the blue metal tables.
Go early! They open at 13:00 and are always busy, namely serving locals who appreciate the warm atmosphere, the friendly service and traditional Greek foods. Fava, Sikoti (Liver), Saussage, Vegies, Salads, Laxano Dolmades and more, all prepared with love and in the traditional way. Or just go for a coffee or a Tsipouro and a few Meze.
While you are only a few steps away from touristic Plaka and Monastiraki, this food has nothing to do with the stereoptype Tourist food. Here it is tasty, fresh ingredients and prepared reminding you of local Gia Gia’s (Grandma’s) dishes.
